Ethanol Detectors Evaluation Poster at ESA 2024

Dr. Karla Addesso presented this poster at the 2024 Entomological Society of America annual conference, sharing the efficacy of two low-cost ethanol detectors. We know that ambrosia beetles are attracted to stressed trees releasing ethanol, but we don’t have a simple or inexpensive way for growers to test for tree stress in the field.  The aim of this research is to identify tools that will let growers assess plant stress so they can decide if they want to apply preventative pesticide sprays to their trees.

Dr. Addesso is a professor at Tennessee State University and the Research Center Director for the TSU Otis L. Floyd Nursery Research Center.
